Grow Boston Greener is an initiative to plant 100,000 trees in Boston by 2020. This initiative is a partnership between the City of Boston and Boston's Urban Forest Coalition. By planting 100,000 trees, the city's tree canopy cover will increase by 20%, Grow Boston Greener will make our city a healthier place to live and visit, improving air quality, shading and cooling our neighborhoods, and lowering energy consumption (and, therefore, carbon emissions, ozone concentrations, and other air pollution).

In June 2007, the City of Boston became one of thirteen inaugural Solar America Cities under the Solar America Initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and launched Solar Boston, a program to encourage widespread adoption of solar energy in Boston. Through Solar Boston, the City will coordinate the purchase, financing and installation of solar technology in residences, businesses, and institutions throughout Boston. |
The Boston Energy Alliance (BEA) is a new, non-profit organization that will design, market, finance, manage, and document energy efficiency improvements throughout Boston. The BEA's efficiency effort will provide energy efficiency services and financing options to residents, businesses, organizations, and institutions. BEA will support the installation of renewable and clean energy generation and of technologies that curb electricity use during peak demand hours. This will spur job creation and economic development, lower energy bills, and reduce fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions. |
